Specialty Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry

There is a vacancyx3 full time Speciality Doctor's working within the The Forensic Mental Health Services. Forensic Mental Health Services relocated to Ridgeway, with its purposebuilt medium and low secure facilities in May 2010. This facility offersincreased capacity, with over 160 medium and low secure male and femalein-patients currently receiving care. A wide range of specialties are cateredfor, including services for intellectually disabled and autistic people. Ridgeway offers spacious accommodation along with a comprehensive rangeof facilities including its own gymnasium, football pitch, cafe, GP surgery,dental surgery and resource centre. The principal objectives of the service are to cater for mentallydisordered patients who require a greater degree of security than can beprovided in conventional psychiatric settings in the region, but who do notneed the degree of security provided by the High Secure Hospitals. Typically,the needs of service users who require high security would be met at RamptonHospital in Nottinghamshire.
The service has a full complement of clinical and forensicpsychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and technicalinstructors working into the MDTs. There are supportive and experienced seniornursing colleagues working throughout the service, together with PracticeDevelopment Practitioners to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work closely with theResponsible Clinician and as a vital part of the multidisciplinary team inensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical care to service users. Specialtydoctors have long been an important part of the service that we provide, and weare committed to supporting their longer-term career development. In additionto ward-based clinical work, there will be opportunities to participate inreferral assessments, which may include other hospitals at various levels ofsecurity, as well as custodial settings.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Teaching & Training
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
* Participated in continuous professional development.
* Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in a core psychiatry training programme in UK or abroad
* Approved under S12 of MHA OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment.
* MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* Good knowledge of psychiatry.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Research, Audit & Quality Improvement
* Has actively participated in clinical audit.
* Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology.
* Participated in research and/or service improvement.
