Responsibilities
* Fully responsible for the proper accounting and financial presentation of assigned projects in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Modified Cash Basis of Accounting, SOM policies and procedures.
* Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place to protect the firm’s assets and generate an appropriate return on assigned projects; utilize appropriate financial management techniques, tools and resources to achieve or exceed the project’s stated financial goals.
* Assist in fee and expense analysis.
* Review contracts from a financial perspective and advise Partners, Project Managers and Central of any unique Firmwide matters, such as foreign currency, taxation or other financial exposures.
* Participate in compliance meetings with the team and review the completed compliance form with the Project Manager.
* Design or assist in the design of the project numbering scheme in accordance with SOM standards.
* Gather information and set up a project for all disciplines and provide qualitative data (functional market, geographical market, etc.).
* Review and analyze the financial condition of each project (accrual and cash) on a monthly basis and advise the Project Manager and Financial Controller of any material variances.
* Review weekly financial reports and bring any significant issues to the Project Manager’s attention.
* Alert the Financial Controller regarding any internal control problems or questionable practices.
* Assist in identifying the need for additional services and assist in the preparation of the project plan including a profitability analysis and review the plan with the PM.
* Update PM on labor status during regular meetings.
* Maintain open communication with PM and project teams regarding charging time, project plan allocations, and hours spent.
* Review preliminary invoices for appropriate labor, expense charges, billing rates, fees maximums and make necessary changes and reclassifications.
* Update outstanding receivable statements, billing summaries and consultant summaries for client use.
* Interact with client accounting departments regarding outstanding invoices, billing schedules and invoice approvals; coordinate with consultants and accounts payable as needed.
* Coordinate with accounting colleagues across SOM offices to support multi-discipline/multi-office projects.
* Assist with other tasks and responsibilities as required.

* Contribute to development of standards, policies, and procedures; help protect SOM from financial and legal risk.
Required Skills And Experience
* Degree in Accounting/Business Administration or comparable experience.
* 4+ years of project or job costing experience.
* Experience within the Architecture, Engineering or Construction industries.
* Hands-on billing, project accounting, and contract review experience.
* Ability to prioritize and organize workflows and manage conflicting demands.
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to interface with project managers, clients and architects.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel).
* Deltek Vision software experience is a plus.
