Overview

LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT in EYFS from September 2025. We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant for a full time role (preferred, part time considered), term time only, working with children in EYFS.

Salary: £23,996- £24,950 FTE pro rata (Bucks Pay ISN6-10) depending on experience. Closing date: Wednesday 17 September 2025 12pm. This post will be subject to enhanced DBS checks. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care.

Job Description

Purpose of the post: To work under the instruction and guidance of teaching and senior staff, undertaking work/care/support programs to maximise academic and personal development of pupils. Enable access to learning and assist the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom. Work may be in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.


Main Duties and Responsibilities


Support for Pupils

* Supervise and provide support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
* Assist with development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
* Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact according to individual needs.
* Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
* Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
* Set challenging expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
* Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the teacher's guidance.
* Deliver pastoral and learning support; deal with minor incidents and health and hygiene where necessary.
* Read with individual children and groups and complete reading records as directed.


Support for the Teacher

* Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment; assist with classroom displays.
* Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
* Assist with planning, delivering and facilitating learning activities.
* If working in EYFS, support, extend and challenge children’s learning and development through play.
* Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and record progress as directed.
* If EYFS, carry out observations and assessments as required.
* Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, and any difficulties.
* Promote and model good behaviour; manage conflicts in line with policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour.
* Support home–school links and positive relationships with parents and carers.
* Administer routine tests and invigilate exams; undertake routine marking of pupils’ work.
* Provide clerical/admin support (photocopying, typing, filing) and work within the school’s supervision system.
* Work with the teacher to support the school induction programme; may contribute to parents’ evenings.


Support for the Curriculum

* Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes; adjust activities according to pupil responses.
* Undertake programmes linked to school and national learning strategies; record achievement and progress and feed back to the teacher.
* Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
* Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources to meet lesson plans and assist pupils in their use.


Support for the School

* Be aware of and comply with policies relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality; report concerns to an appropriate person.
* Be aware of and support differences and ensure equal access to learning opportunities.
* Contribute to the school’s ethos and mission; appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
* Attend meetings as required and participate in training and development as required.
* Supervise pupils as required and accompany staff/pupils on visits and activities; assist in the general care of the school environment.
* Promote equal opportunities at all times.

General requirements: participate in the school’s performance management system; attend staff meetings; enhanced DBS check; commitment to equalities; safeguard and promote welfare of children and vulnerable people.


Person Specification

Personal attributes: Enthusiasm for working with children and as part of a team; patience and perseverance; sense of humour; flexibility; positive outlook; strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Experience: Experience with relevant age groups in a learning environment; good literacy and numeracy skills.

Be willing to undertake: Training in relevant strategies; First Aid, Child Protection and Safeguarding training; additional training as needed to meet children’s needs.

Knowledge and Understanding: Effective use of ICT to support learning; use of other equipment and technology; understanding of policies/codes of practice and relevant legislation; understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum; basic understanding of child development and learning; ability to relate well to children and adults; ability to work as part of a team and with professionals.
