Are you a passionate veterinary surgeon seeking a place to call your own, where you can make a real difference in the lives of both pets and their owners? Look no further! Join our close-knit team at Ashurst where we prioritise compassionate care and personal connections with the local community.
Role and Location
We are looking for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our Ashurst branch within the beautiful New Forest, with the option to also work at Orchard Vets, Romsey so you'll have the freedom to choose a location that suits you best. The role provides a mixture of consulting and operating with an interesting and varied caseload. The role at Ashurst is sole charge, so it would suit a Veterinary Surgeon with some confidence in routine procedures; however, support for development is always on hand. The practice has recently undergone refurbishment and includes a beautifully maintained garden for relaxation. The practice is equipped with digital X-ray, in-house haematology and biochemistry including SDMA, T4 and other extended panels, ultrasound with echocardiography, capnography, tonometry and ECG. Further equipment investment is open for discussion if you have a particular clinical interest. The branch is currently closed on Wednesdays and weeks are typically 40 hours across 4 days; there is no weekend work at this branch and Out-of-Hours (OOH) cover is provided by Vets Now. We are flexible on rota patterns to support work-life balance and part-time applications are welcome.
Responsibilities
The role provides a mixture of consulting and operating with a varied caseload. You will be working in sole charge at Ashurst, with access to support and development within the wider Orchard Vets group, including Orchard Vets in Romsey where you can collaborate with a larger team if needed. You may also tap into resources from Romsey, including the equipment listed below, to complete cases or refer internally for treatment.
Facilities and Team
You are welcome to utilise equipment and see cases through or refer internally. Orchard Vets Romsey offers additional resources: 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 6 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 1 ACA and 4 receptionists/administrators, plus dental radiography, laparoscopy, endoscopy, K-Laser, Vetscan Imagyst and cryotherapy.
Schedule and Benefits
* Typical full-time: 40 hours per week over 4 days; branch closed on Wednesdays; no weekend work; OOH covered by Vets Now. Flexible patterns available; part-time applicants welcome.
We emphasise development and CPD opportunities. One of our vets has an emergency medicine and surgery certificate with interests in surgery and internal medicine within the team.
