Highly Specialist Physiotherapist - Peterborough

Band 7- Highly Specialist Physiotherapist- Neuro (Fixed Term)

The Outpatient Neuro Physiotherapy Team currently covers two sites with clinics at both Peterborough City Hospital and Stamford Hospital. The team runs individual clinics as well as groups at both sites and regularly liaises with the Neurologists and MS Nurse Specialist and have input to a monthly Neuropsychiatry MDT meeting.

The Outpatient Neuro PhysiotherapyTeam is responsible for providing a quality service across both sites to a busy neurology out-patient department consisting of referrals from: local GP practices, Neurologists, MS and Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist, Rehabilitation Consultants, and out of area hospitals including Addenbrookes and Sheffield Spinal Unit. We also provide vestibular rehabilitation, facial palsy rehabilitation and assessment for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for foot drop.

We are looking for a 9 month fixed term maternity cover band 7 Physiotherapist (19.5 hours), although a Band 6 Physiotherapist (23.25 hours) would be considered.

You must have experience of working within the Neurology speciality within the NHS and some line management experience. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical, teaching and managerial skills and be actively involved in service development.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.


Main duties of the job

The Highly Specialist physiotherapist working with the Neurology Therapy Team develops the quality of the clinical service and staff that deliver it. The post holder will work using an enhanced level of practice applying specialist knowledge and skills in the field of neurology. They will assess and treat a specialist complex caseload of patients and make clinical decisions for treatment plans.

They will act as the profession specific lead to support the training and development of the clinical staff within the Neurology therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team. To lead on service development, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence-based care in line with trust and national priorities. They will be responsible for the delivery of key quality performance indicators linked to providing high quality care.

Due to the hybrid nature of this particular role the Highly Specialist Physiotherapist will also provide day to day management of the staff within the team, overseeing the operational performance of the team and appropriate use of resources. They are responsible for the delivery of human resource key quality performance indicators.

Person Specification


Education & Qualifications

* Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
* HCPC Registered
* Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical area - neurology
* CSP member
* Member of CSP Specialist section - i.e ACPIN, TiMS


Experience

* NHS experience working at senior level
* Clinical experience within neurology, outpatients and patients with additional needs
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working
* Demonstrate active involvement in the audit process
* Experience of change management
* Experience of supervising and mentoring junior members of staff and pre-registration students
* Experience of developing staff and sharing knowledge
* Ability to demonstrate working with regional/national networks


Knowledge

* Demonstrate sound level of theoretical profession specific knowledge
* Evidence of current practices and developments within the field of neurology including functional neurological disorder
* Sound knowledge of interventions relevant to clinical area
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical governance including implications on service and audit


Key Skills

* Provide enhanced clinical care in line with professional registration, code of conduct and defined scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for decisions
* Flexible and adaptable to prioritise workload
* Demonstrate self-reflective practice and experience of supporting others with reflective practice through supervision or mentorship
