Job Description
As a seasonal Ornithologist, you will have the opportunity to join the largest, full-time professional Ornithology team on the island of Ireland for the winter bird survey field season from September 2025 to March 2026 inclusive. You will have the opportunity to work on ornithological surveys throughout Ireland across various sectors and projects, including wind energy, transport, residential, and flood relief schemes. The data you collect and analyse will inform the design of projects and contribute towards impact assessments and constraint reports. You will work alongside a team of experienced ornithologists and get the chance to work in a variety of habitats and encounter some of the most emblematic and rare bird species, such as hen harrier, merlin or white-tailed eagle!
Requirements:
* The seasonal bird surveyor role is open to is open to ornithologists with qualifications in Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Science or another relevant discipline, equipping you with the necessary field and ID skills to undertake the role.
* Seasonal contracts for ornithologists will run from September 2025 to March 2026 inclusive with potential for contract extension in certain circumstances.
* We are looking for candidates with a keen interest and good knowledge of Irish bird ecology with strong to excellent bird identification skills and a desire to work within a professional multidisciplinary consultancy in the field of ornithology.
* We are looking for field surveyors with a love of the outdoors and the aptitude and capability for undertaking independent field work in remote locations and a collaborative and flexible approach to their work.
* Those applying to for this seasonal contract would ideally have good IT, GIS and report writing skills with competency in managing digital datasets.
