Overview
JW Grant is an established independent builders' merchant with five busy branches across Central Scotland. We are currently seeking an experienced Yard Operative to join our fast-paced Paisley branch.
This role is only suitable for candidates with previous builders' merchant yard experience. We are looking for someone confident handling building materials, working efficiently under pressure, and delivering excellent service to both trade and retail customers.
£30,000+ On-Target Earnings
This includes:
* £12.71 per hour (40 hours per week) – effective 1 April 2026
* 26 Saturdays per year (8 am–12 pm) paid at time and a half
* £1,200 annual performance bonus (paid quarterly)
* Overtime opportunities available
* £200 Summer bonus
* £200 Christmas bonus
This is a stable, structured earning package within a well-established independent business.
The Role
* Serving trade and retail customers efficiently and professionally
* Accurately picking orders and safely loading/unloading vehicles
* Handling a wide range of building and landscaping materials
* Supporting drivers to ensure smooth and efficient turnaround
* Maintaining a clean, organised and secure yard
* Following Health & Safety procedures at all times
This is a busy working yard where organisation, pace and teamwork are essential.
What We're Looking For
* Previous builders' merchant yard experience (essential)
* Strong knowledge of building materials
* Good customer service skills and a professional manner
* Reliable, punctual and organised
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good understanding of yard Health & Safety standards
Desirable
* Counterbalance forklift licence (or willingness to undertake training)
