We’re recruiting for a Tree Officer to play a key role in protecting and managing the borough’s trees within planning and conservation environments.
This is a hands-on, professional role combining site inspections, planning advice, and enforcement—ideal for someone with strong arboricultural knowledge and local authority experience.
What you’ll be doing
* Assess applications for works to protected trees and within conservation areas
* Manage and review Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)
* Advise planning teams, officers, and councillors on arboricultural impact
* Lead enforcement on unauthorised tree works
* Represent the council in appeals and legal proceedings
* Carry out site inspections across Calderdale
* Liaise with external bodies including the Forestry Commission
What we’re looking for
* HNC in Arboriculture (essential)
* Strong knowledge of planning & tree protection legislation
* Experience inspecting and assessing trees/woodlands
* Ability to produce clear reports and recommendations
* Confident communicator across stakeholders
* Full UK driving licence + access to a vehicle
