We are recruiting for a Service Manager at HMP Brixton
Here at Forward Trust, we deliver a complex range of drug and alcohol services in the unique prison environment. Our support includes providing advice, health and wellbeing, motivational work, clinical services, and a wider range of group work and treatment programmes.
The Forward Trust services which are delivered within prison settings are commissioned by NHS England and are delivered in partnership with primary healthcare providers and HMPPS. Integration and partnership are integral to the work we do.

Roles Responsibilities
The Forward Trust Substance Misuse Service at HMP Brixton is commissioned to deliver psychosocial interventions within an integrated healthcare framework known as the New Models of Care (NMOC). The team work collaboratively with health and justice partners to deliver services across core functions including Early Days in Custody (EDiC), unscheduled care, planned care, release and resettlement. The service is based on site within the prison, delivering a wide range of interventions directly to service users aged 18 and over residing at HMP Brixton.
This is a closed category mens prison in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, West London. The service takes a recovery orientated and trauma informed approach to delivery of holistic health and wellbeing interventions and various treatment programmes for those coming into the prison who experience drugs and/or alcohol misuse issues. With pro-active partnership working a key aspect in the delivery of these services multi-disciplinary working across mental health, healthcare services and the prison is essential.
You will be based on site working within a team that have a broad skills mix providing recovery orientated Health and Wellbeing Services to service users aged 18 and over at: HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton is a dynamic and forward-thinking prison which accommodates a diverse and complex population of individuals both sentenced and/or remanded from courts across London. Services are designed to deliver psychosocial interventions and accredited group programmes.
You will be responsible for:
Line managing Team Leaders within your Service.
Contributing to solving strategic challenges and Forwards business plan, in collaboration with the Regional Manager.
Developing and advancing relationships with key stakeholders within your service
Producing performance reports for commissioners and attending contract meetings
Ensuring data accurately reflects output and is submitted within set deadlines, which includes ensuring services are audit compliant and meet all CQC requirements.
Some flexibility of delivery may be required within the role which may include evening/weekend shifts depending on the individual service. You may also be required with reasonable notice to travel to other projects in your cluster to deliver services, enabling continuity of care for the client group.
All prison-based roles will require enhanced DBS and HMPPS security vetting. Please note this process can take up to 3-6 weeks. All offers are subject to receiving both HMPPS vetting and DBS clearances.

The Ideal Candidate
Please see below a list of skills and experience needed for this role.
A thorough understanding of the requirements of providing drug and alcohol services, including addiction treatment programmes preferably within a prison setting
Previous experience of developing and implementing service improvements
Demonstrable experience in the management of people and performance
Experience of overseeing the collection, recording and collating of information, including statistical data, for audit, research and reporting purposes
Ability to focus on key issues quickly and clearly using a positive problem solving approach
Effective negotiating and influencing skills
Understanding of Psychosocial and 12 step interventions and community provision
Experience of supervision of therapeutic group work of others and proven human resources management skills
Experience of working within the voluntary sector
Demonstrable experience of understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and equality issues
Knowledge and experience of formal procedures and policy
Working knowledge of using Microsoft office packages and database monitoring systems
