IT Cyber Security Engineer – Milton Keynes, Head Office

This is a Cyber Security Engineer position, where you will be responsible for protecting the Group 1 Automotive business from evolving cyber threats, ensuring the security and integrity of systems, data, and infrastructure.
You will be part of the wider IT Security Team, primarily monitoring, investigating, and responding to security incidents across all areas of the business, while delivering proactive security measures to support both office-based and remote colleagues.
In addition to having strong technical security knowledge, you will play a key role in promoting a security-first culture, enforcing policies, and delivering a best-in-class cyber defence service across the Group.

What you’ll do day to day
* Monitor and triage security alerts, ensuring timely investigation and resolution
* Investigate and respond to security incidents across endpoints, networks, and systems
* Conduct vulnerability assessments and security reviews across offices, retail sites, and remote environments
* Perform security configuration checks for networks, servers, and endpoint devices
* Support and enforce data loss prevention (DLP) and access management controls
* Assist with onboarding/offboarding processes from a security perspective
* Develop expertise in security tools such as SIEM, EDR, and threat intelligence platforms
* Identify and remediate vulnerabilities across devices including PCs, mobile devices, and printers
* Support the Infrastructure Team in identifying network threats and misconfigurations
* Liaise with third‑party security vendors and managed service providers to resolve issues
* Promote cyber awareness across the business (phishing, data handling, security best practices)
* Maintain detailed documentation of incidents, investigations, and resolutions
* Support the wider IT team with escalations, prioritisation, and communication
* Ensure all security procedures, standards, and compliance requirements are followed
* Occasionally travel to retail sites to support IT and security operations
Helpful skills and qualifications

* Experience in cybersecurity, IT support, or security operations (SOC environment desirable)
* Knowledge of Microsoft 365 security tools and environments
* Familiarity with SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, and incident response
* Understanding of networking fundamentals and security principles
* Awareness of GDPR, data protection, and cybersecurity best practices
* Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
* Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks under pressure
* A proactive, organised, and detail‑oriented mindset
* Experience working in a multi‑site or enterprise environment is beneficial
* Ability to support and guide team members to deliver a high‑quality service
