We’re working with a leading international law firm seeking an experienced Compliance Lawyer specialising in Financial Crime to join its London-based compliance team. This is a senior, high-impact role sitting at the heart of the firm’s UK and European compliance function, supporting offices across London, Paris and Brussels.
The role focuses on financial crime compliance and will involve close collaboration with senior stakeholders across the business, including partners, the MLRO, compliance leadership and international colleagues. You’ll take responsibility for the financial crime function within the team, overseeing analysts and supporting the wider compliance infrastructure to ensure consistent, high-quality advice across the firm.
Day to day, you’ll be advising on a broad range of financial crime matters, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, bribery and corruption, fraud, tax evasion and market abuse. You’ll support the MLRO with SAR submissions, client and supplier questionnaires, and regulatory engagement, while also horizon scanning for regulatory change and translating that into practical policy updates, procedures and training. The role also has a strong strategic element, including audit preparation, high-risk client approvals, policy ownership, training delivery, and involvement in firmwide committees and external industry forums.
Alongside the financial crime focus, you’ll advise more generally on compliance and regulatory issues affecting the firm, including conflicts, confidentiality, regulatory requirements across jurisdictions, and other ad hoc matters, as well as providing holiday cover within the wider compliance team. The role includes line management responsibilities and involvement in developing the team as the firm continues to evolve its compliance framework and systems.
This opportunity would suit a qualified lawyer with 5+ years’ PQE, gained within a large City or international law firm, either in a compliance function or as a fee earner with strong regulatory exposure. You’ll need a solid working knowledge of UK and international AML regimes, sanctions, and financial crime legislation, along with experience advising stakeholders, managing projects, and implementing changes to policies and processes. Strong communication skills, resilience, commercial awareness and a collaborative mindset are essential.
The firm offers a competitive salary and bonus, alongside a comprehensive benefits package, and places real value on its compliance function, with visible senior-level engagement and a strong culture of professionalism, teamwork and development.
