The role
The Particle Physics group of the University of Bristol ) UK, seeks a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join its team working on the HL-LHC upgrade of the CMS experiment at CERN. The successful applicant will focus on strengthening our involvement on the ambitious High-Granularity Calorimeter project, which forms an essential part of the upgrade to CMS. In particular they will play a leading role in algorithm emulator development and maintenance as well as coordinating the definition and testing of interfaces to the Level-1 Trigger system. It is anticipated the candidate will have to spend some time at CERN during testing periods.
What will you be doing?
Your key responsibilities will involve:
* Development of algorithm emulation software for trigger primitive finding
* Development of software tools for performance evaluation
* Integration testing preparation and operation
* Interface development and specification
* Supporting the wider activities of the Bristol CMS group
You should apply if
* You have (or about to obtain) a PhD in experimental particle physics or equivalent professional experience in the research area required.
* You have fluency in at least one programming language (C++ and/or Python).
* You have an interest in algorithm/emulator development for HL-LHC
* You have an interest in commissioning new detector back-end systems
