Litigation Locum The Role A well-regarded local authority is seeking an experienced Locum Litigation Lawyer to join its Legal Services team. Working as part of a small and supportive legal team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad range of contentious matters. This is an excellent opportunity to support a busy and collaborative team during a period of increased demand. Key Responsibilities Provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of complex and often contentious matters across all Council services Manage a varied caseload including civil and commercial litigation, housing matters, and enforcement work Prepare and conduct cases before civil courts, criminal courts, and tribunals, including advocacy where appropriate Handle prosecutions in areas such as planning, environmental health, and licensing Instruct Counsel where necessary and oversee cases through to final hearings and appeals Negotiate settlements, including through alternative dispute resolution and arbitration Support the Legal Services Manager and wider Litigation Team on complex or high-profile cases About You Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive in England & Wales Demonstrable experience in litigation within a local authority or public sector environment Strong working knowledge of civil litigation, housing law, and regulatory enforcement Advocacy experience and confidence managing cases independently Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment What's on Offer Full-time or part-time hours considered Remote working with Court attendance as required Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience Apply Now If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience for the position of Litigation Locum, please apply now or contact Natalie Ferguson in our Manchester office for more information.
