Overview
The Ear, Nose & Throat Department is expanding to meet the needs of the population of East Kent. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Head & Neck/ENT Surgeon to join a team of 11 Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeons. The Trust is going through a period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to deliver a critical care hub for Kent and Medway. A new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit has been built at the William Harvey Hospital, to include bespoke training facilities, including dedicated space for in-situ simulation training. The William Harvey site is also the Trauma centre for East Kent. Robotic Head & Neck surgery is offered through the Kent and Canterbury site which is also the vascular centre for Kent & Medway.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality Ear, Nose & Throat patient services, including elective and emergency surgeries, outpatient, day-case and inpatient management. The Consultant will be responsible for prioritising patient lists for outpatient appointments and admissions within the nationally defined targets.

Job responsibilities
The position holder will have to be involved in all aspects of the patient pathway from two-week wait rule clinics to major surgical resections. The post will require skills in managing both benign and malignant disease. We are looking for a candidate that is fellowship trained. It is also key to have a high level of training in trans-oral laser resections and robotic surgery. Skills that can be put to use straightaway when commencing the post.
The position holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time). The position holder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers. The position holder will be required to participate in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the Chief Executive. EKHUFT supports the requirements for continuing professional development and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities in line with the EKHUFT Policy. The position holder will be required to participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the Health Boards policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance.
The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 12 consultant of the week rota to cover East Kent Hospitals. The frequency of this may decrease or increase based on consultant appointments. The on-call week is from Monday 8am to Monday 8am inclusive of weekend working. A proportion of clinical activities remain and should be completed during the on-call week. During the on-call week, Consultant of the week undertakes daily ward rounds, supervision of ENT emergency clinics, advice & guidance referrals, emergency theatres, junior staff teaching and patient administration. The position holder will be required to cover for consultant colleagues' periods of leave.

Qualifications and training
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
* Other additional post CCT training or experience
Skills and experience
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
* Broad experience in the management of ENT elective surgery and emergency care
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
* Experience in working in MDT teams clinics such as Head and Neck and Thyroid
* Special interest that compliments the Department
* Willingness to build a business case and set up new services
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
Clinical governance
* Evidence of involvement in Audit/QI/Governance processes
* Self-audit of outcomes
* Ability to identify, assess, and manage clinical risk across outpatient, inpatient, theatre, and emergency settings
* Experience of incident reporting, investigation, and reflective practice in line with Trust and national patient safety processes

Remuneration
£113,565 to £150,569 a year + 10 PA + 3 % on-call supplement
