Job Overview
We are looking to recruit a motivated and registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years NHS post graduate experience who wishes to progress his or her career through training within the Pre‑Assessment service.
The post is based at Wansbeck General Hospital and also includes rotational opportunities.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 – Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.
The successful candidate will start on a Band 5 and later move up to a Band 6 once all training and competencies have been completed.
The successful candidate will need to be dynamic, flexible and proactive in his or her approach and have excellent communication skills, and be able to work on their own initiative, and as part of a team.
The key role of the successful candidate will be to undertake the Pre‑assessment of elective patients awaiting surgery under general anaesthetic using specialised history taking and clinical skills following agreed protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
* To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the Pre‑Assessment team under the direction of the Department Manager.
* To be responsible for the organising and co‑ordination of nursing services in the ward/department in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis.
* To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
* To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
* To work autonomously following Trust and national guidelines to provide specialist nursing with a defined case load for patients having elective surgery under General Anaesthetic, including taking a detailed clinical history, physical examination, ordering investigations and interpreting results, making assessment of care needs and developing and assessing programmes and standards of care; working with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure safe and appropriate care; providing specialist education and training to other members of the team.
* To role‑model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust, demonstrating a consistent leadership style which engages, enables and empowers others; uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and facilitates team working and collaboration within teams/departments and across organisational boundaries.
Qualifications
* Registered nurse (RN) with a minimum of 2 years NHS post graduate experience.
* Dynamic, flexible and proactive approach with excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
