Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and conscientious Biomedical Scientist to deliver safe, high-quality and effective service while continuously striving for improvement. The successful candidate will undertake general and specialist analysis of samples received in Blood Sciences, on a rotational basis throughout all sections of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, and will inform a Consultant Haematologist of any result that may require immediate clinical action.
Job Responsibilities
* General and specialist analysis of samples received in Blood Sciences, on a rotational basis throughout all sections of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
* Authorise clinical results in accordance with defined turnaround times.
* Perform maintenance, calibrations and quality control checks on analytical equipment, following suitable training.
* Rotate through all benches within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections.
* Engage with quality management system (NCNs, audits, etc.) and maintain accreditation under UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
* Contribute to the departmental out of hours shift rota.
* Operate in a respectful and professional manner.
* Adhere to Trust policies for health and safety and patient confidentiality.
* Engage with the departmental training programme for each task.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences degree (or equivalent approved by the IBMS)
Experience
* Experience working and communicating as part of a diverse team
* Experience working in a UK NHS diagnostic laboratory
Desirable
* Further training courses (e.g. analyser/subject specific)
* Experience working in a UK NHS diagnostic laboratory in a haematology and/or blood transfusion discipline
* Experience working as part of an out of hours shift rota or as a lone worker
