About the job Job summary The Director General for Economic and Business Growth will be responsible for developing a long-term plan to boost the supply side of the UK economy. It will set out how Britain will compete outside of the European Union, in a global economy facing increased geopolitical tensions. Using both in-house and publicly available data to provide actionable insights. You will be responsible for the strategic direction and leadership for a directorate. You will be responsible for working across the whole department, building strong collaborative relationships with your DG colleagues. You will have management responsibility for the analyst group. The plan will need to be developed in partnership with business. It will need to give them sufficient clarity and certainty so they can make long term investments. The Director General will need to use in house and publicly available data to provide actionable insights to support departmental strategy. The Director General will need to work with academics to draw on history of what has worked and what hasn't. They will also need to draw on lessons from other countries, using insights from our Trade Commissioners and the FCDO network. This will be a cross Whitehall endeavour. The Director General will need to work closely with the HMT Chief Economic Advisor, HMT Second Permanent Secretary and DG for Economic Growth and Productivity along with Director Generals across Whitehall. They will need to leverage existing co-ordination led by HMT, building a shared sense of ownership across the prosperity departments. Collaborative working will be essential.
