Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Ward Clerk for Cardiology. The position will be based on Ward 6 and the Coronary Care Unit at the Alexandra Hospital. The post is for 30 hours a week and is a permanent position.
Ward 6 is a 22-bedded ward. Coronary Care has 4 beds.
We are seeking a confident individual with excellent communication skills and a professional, tactful, and diplomatic approach to work within this busy department.
This is a demanding but interesting and varied role. The successful candidate must possess the ability to work as part of a team and the initiative to work unsupervised when necessary. An understanding of confidentiality is essential, as well as a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
Previous hospital experience would be desirable. Good communication skills and excellent keyboard skills are also essential. Full training for this post will be provided.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide administrative and clerical support to the ward, professional qualified staff, and provide the first point of contact to all users of the service.
2. To ensure the availability of accurate patient records and documentation as per Trust policies and procedures.
3. To liaise with patients, relatives, and other members of the public politely and efficiently, ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information as per Trust policy and in line with Information Governance guidance.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Receiving new patients and welcoming accompanying relatives/friends, explaining basic ward routine, and answering initial questions pending Nurse in Charge being available.
2. Preparing identity bracelets as required, adding the #callme and labels for notes etc.
3. Making arrangements for patients' discharge, including transfers to other hospitals and wards, booking transport.
4. Checking case notes, tidying, and returning them to the scan centre.
5. Answering several phones on the Ward in a professional manner and conveying messages to the appropriate person.
6. Photocopying, scanning, and ordering paperwork required for the Ward.
7. To receive general telephone calls, recording messages, and dealing with initial enquiries in a friendly, professional manner and referring the call to the relevant member of staff, as appropriate.

* Good standard of inputting/keyboard skills
* IT literate
