⚙️ Electrical / Mechanical Test Engineer | Xtrutech | Stoke‑on‑Trent (On‑site, Full‑Time)
Company Overview:
At Xtrutech, we’re global leaders in the design and manufacture of Twin Screw Extruders and advanced extrusion equipment. With decades of expertise, we help manufacturers transform their processing capabilities through innovative technologies that boost productivity, streamline maintenance, and minimise downtime.
Our comprehensive solutions span full production and laboratory extrusion lines, including twin‑screw extruders, feeding systems, cooling conveyors, drum coolers, and auxiliary machinery. We’re proud to serve customers worldwide with dedicated support, from spare parts and service plans to process optimisation, training, and refurbishments.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Mechanical/Electrical Test Engineer to join our team at our Stoke‑on‑Trent facility. This hands‑on role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both mechanical and electrical challenges, ensuring that Xtrutech’s equipment performs to the highest standards before it reaches our customers.
You’ll be involved in testing, inspection, and maintenance of our extrusion systems — working closely with our design, software, and service teams to develop, implement, and refine testing protocols.
What You’ll Do:
Perform system tests, inspections, and maintenance on Xtrutech machinery. Assemble, test, and verify mechanical and electromechanical systems — including electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
 * Review and modify electrical schematics and P&ID drawings using AutoCAD.
 * Create and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), including customer‑witnessed testing.
 * Collaborate with Design and Software Engineers to develop electrical specifications and Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
 * Maintain technical documentation using Vault PDM and Sage PLM.
 * Identify and recommend design improvements based on testing outcomes.
 * Occasionally support on‑site installations, maintenance, or service activities at customer locations.
 * Uphold Xtrutech’s standards in health, safety, quality, and professional conduct at all times.
 * Full UK driving license.
 * Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
 * Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
 * Proven experience assembling and testing complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
 * Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
 * Skilled in electrical testing and fault‑finding on 3‑phase and 24VDC systems.
 * Experience configuring and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) — Siemens G120C (or similar)
 * Familiarity with PLC architectures (Siemens S7‑1200/1500, ET200SP, Profinet)
 * Knowledge of safety systems, risk assessment, and Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) compliance.
 * Experience documenting FAT procedures, reports, and issue logs.
 * Confident using test equipment — multimeters, insulation testers, torque wrenches, etc.
 * Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with customers and colleagues.
 * Comfortable traveling for customer support, FATs/SATs, and installations as required.
 * Health & Safety qualification (IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent)
 * Experience with extrusion or similar process equipment.
 * Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
