We are currently looking for a kind, reliable, and experienced Personal Assistant to support our son - a young adult with complex needs who requires one-to-one support throughout the day.
When he was born, he contracted meningitis, which has led to life-changing conditions including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and visual impairment. As a result, he requires full-time, one-to-one support in all aspects of daily life.
This role would suit someone with a lot of patience, compassion, and previous experience supporting individuals with additional physical and learning needs. Our son doesn't always understand what's happening around him, so he needs constant reassurance and guidance throughout the day. He thrives with structure, familiarity, and gentle encouragement.
Your main responsibilities will include helping with personal care such as showering, dressing, and toileting. There are also significant manual handling needs, including assisting him in and out of his wheelchair, helping him sit down and stand up, and supporting general mobility. Experience with or willingness to be trained in manual handling is important.
You will also help him with eating and drinking - this includes guiding him to his drink and offering support during meals. He requires close supervision and hands-on support at all times.
He absolutely loves going out, especially on long car journeys while listening to his favourite music. Part of your role will involve taking him on local outings to the shops or day trips, so someone comfortable with travel and able to support him outside of the home is essential.
We are a supportive family and are looking for someone who will not only help meet our son's physical needs, but also take time to connect with him and support his independence and well-being.
