Job summary
The post holder will act as an experienced specialist State Registered Biomedical Scientist to provide a continuous, comprehensive Cellular Pathology service to support effective diagnosis and treatment.
Responsibilities include undertaking routine and advanced preparatory and interpretive techniques, such as Immunohistochemistry and research projects.
The post involves performing technical duties in Cellular Pathology to required standards and within Health and Safety regulations, supporting diagnostic services for patients.
The post holder practices as a Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist, performing routine and specialist tasks independently when necessary, but under the direction of senior Biomedical Scientists, according to service needs. The role also requires working independently.
The post holder will maintain personal and professional development, participate in training, and support staff development and training.
Supervision of newly qualified BMS staff, trainees, and biomedical support workers is also part of the role.
Main duties
An exciting opportunity to join the Cellular Pathology Department at Swansea Bay University Health Board as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist / Trainee BMS.
The department is developing services, including Molecular Pathology and the all-Wales Digital Pathology Programme.
Applications are invited from graduates with an accredited IBMS degree in Biomedical Science or students about to graduate, as well as those in healthcare science practitioner training programs. Trainee positions may be offered if no suitably qualified candidates are found.
The department has a good track record with HCPC registration for Trainee Biomedical Science graduates and offers development opportunities, including MSc support.
The department is fully UKAS accredited under ISO 15189 and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential): Degree in Biomedical Science with IBMS Specialist Portfolio in histology or equivalent.
Desirable: Experience in Cellular Pathology laboratory environment.
Skills (Essential): Proven ability to work independently.
Desirable: Welsh language skills levels 1-5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing.
Knowledge/Experience (Essential): Extensive experience and understanding of Cellular Pathology techniques and current professional issues.
Desirable: Knowledge of complex specialist laboratory techniques.
