Overview
The Packaging Production Manager (Pharma) oversees all packaging operations within the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, ensuring products are packaged efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with GMP, regulatory requirements, and company standards. This role involves managing multiple shift operations and providing direct supervision to the Packaging Administrator, Packaging Coordinator, and Packaging Operators. A strong focus on planning, cycle time optimization, and resource management is required to maximize equipment utilization and maintain operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate, and manage daily packaging operations to meet production targets. Work closely with other production groups and related functional supporting departments (e.g., Supply Chain, Engineering, HR, and QA) to ensure activities are managed effectively and resources are used efficiently.
* Collaborate with other Production Managers on strategic planning and longer-term issues (typically up to one year, with major focus within the first six months), including management of facility changes or developments.
* Provide leadership, motivation, and development opportunities for all operational staff by implementing effective training and appraisal processes, including coaching and direct training. Liaise with other first-line managers to achieve this. Personnel development is agreed in line with the PMP system administered by the incumbent.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement by driving programmes that identify opportunities and implement changes in a controlled manner, focusing on business improvement goals and compliance in SHE and QO aspects. Analyze area performance data to guide improvements, write trial protocols for improvement processes, and ensure closure through revised procedures.
* Work closely with Quality to ensure operations meet company and regulatory requirements. In the event of unplanned deviations, agree corrective actions with Quality, implement them, investigate issues, and follow up through Material Review. Revise procedures/practices to prevent recurrence.
* Establish acceptable standards of behaviour and performance for the operations and work with all personnel to apply them, with timely resolution of issues.
* Ensure staff are kept informed of site issues via monthly briefings and general management topics.
* Be responsible for designated roles within the department or site-wide projects as agreed with the departmental Leader.
Relevant experience / Qualifications
* Minimum 5–7 years of experience in pharmaceutical packaging, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of GMP, regulatory compliance, and pharmaceutical packaging operations.
* Familiarity with serialization, labeling, and tamper-evident packaging requirements.
* Experience with packaging automation and equipment validation.
* Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
