The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Hendon, you will support pupils who require additional help to access learning and thrive within the school environment. Pupils may present with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, and sensory processing needs.
You may be supporting a pupil on a 1:1 basis, working with small intervention groups, or assisting across the classroom under the direction of the class teacher. In some schools, you may work within specialist SEN resource bases attached to mainstream schools, providing targeted and structured support.
The role requires patience, consistency, and a calm approach, particularly when supporting pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation or social interaction.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide targeted SEN support in line with EHCPs and individual learning plans
* Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social skills
* Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and activities
* Encourage independence, confidence, and positive self-esteem
* Support pupils during transitions, break times, and sensory activities
* Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SENCOs
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings where appropriate
* Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies at all times
