Overview
This role will implement and lead effective health and safety programs, whilst creating an atmosphere of a proactive safety culture. You will be responsible for providing competent advice to General Manager Operations regarding SHE legal compliance and guidance, and this role will also include the carrying out of appropriate risk assessments, workplace audits, inspections and employee training. There will also be a focus on the development of people and tools to increase overall efficiency and flexibility.
Responsibilities
* To develop and lead the team in promoting, educating and ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation across the company.
* Ensure all sites adhere to outlined Health & Safety and Environmental policies.
* Ensure the Directors and SLT are aware of all key HSE compliance changes.
* Develop and implement a strategy to improve safety and reduce the impact on the environment.
* Ensure that all Risk Assessments are completed and reviewed as per current legislation and maintain appropriate records.
* Coordination of fire and emergency evacuations.
* Assist in the review of PUWER assessments.
* Update, maintain and review COSHH risk assessments and the COSHH register
* Assist managers to complete all risk assessments and special assessments.
* Conduct internal compliance audits of all sites, reporting and developing a plan to address any issues arising.
* Implement practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices in the workplace.
* Co-ordinate and manage first aid & first aiders and fire marshals, including training and auditing.
* Review, recommend and implement control measures and advise on the standards of PPE.
* Review all accident and near-miss incidents and record all remedial actions.
* Notify Directors of all incidents reportable under RIDDOR.
* Conduct Health, Safety and Environmental inspections and prepare documents and reports as required.
* Identify areas where training / certification is required to meet the standards imposed by legislation, Codes of Practice or HSE guidance and arrange such training/certification as required.
* Review and implement contractor health and safety procedures.
* Keep up to date with changes in legislation and implement changes where relevant.

Qualifications
* Experience in a similar role is essential.
* NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
* First Aid Certificate
* Desire to be at the forefront of driving change and to have a direct involvement in shaping the future of the company.
* A willingness and desire to lead their teams, and to train, motivate and inspire team members.
* Well organised, good interpersonal skills.
