Salary

The role
As part of SSEN Transmission's Pathway to 2030 programme of works, this role is for Protection & Control Engineers to join our Offshore and Onshore AC Project Engineering teams to develop and deliver technical solutions across the SSEN Transmission Network, including new 400 kV network infrastructure and new connections. The Offshore team is specifically focused on Island projects that connect to HVDC systems and involve state‑of‑the‑art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology in challenging environmental conditions.
You will
* Assess and define the technical scope of protection and control requirements for new build substations and modifications to the existing network.
* Prepare outline scheme designs, key line diagrams, protection setting calculations and setting files for relays, and support the implementation of IEC61850 solutions.
* Review third‑party contractor/consultant detailed designs, witness FAT and provide support for field teams to ensure quality of installations.
* Evaluate tenders and procure/manage specialist services from consultants.
* Support multi‑disciplinary project teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and opportunities for project excellence.
You have
* At least an HND level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
* Demonstrable technical skills in transmission protection and control specification and scheme design, and the ability to calculate protection settings for implementation.
* Confidence to technically assess engineering problems and critically evaluate a range of technical solutions.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence, prioritise tasks and a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR, and their implications for transmission network management.
* An ongoing Chartered Engineering status or working towards it; SSEN Transmission fully recognises and supports continuing professional development.
