About the role…
The primary purpose of this role is to play a leading role in the Engineering team, perform technical analysis and develop concepts, assuming responsibility for the training and upskilling of engineering staff and managing outsourced engineering activities
Key duties include, but are not limited to:
• Mechanical Engineer for bridging projects, who will have responsibility for the structural integrity of KNDS bridging products to ensure they meet the specification, legislative, environmental & safety requirements of customers
• Stress analysis, fatigue evaluation and design calculations including non-linear FEA
• Writing of test specifications, acceptance criteria and reporting
• Comprehend specified design criteria and work in accordance with applicable standards
• Overseeing in-house & outsourced Engineering activities, performing design reviews for the manufacture of fabricated metallic products
• Liaising with the customer to verify project scope and ensure deliverables
• Preparing and managing project programmes, workload and resources
• Investigation, evaluation and sentencing of data from non-conforming product
• Problem solving and continuous improvement
What we’re looking for…
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Engineering Degree in relevant discipline (e.g. Mechanical/Aerospace)
• Thorough understanding of structural behaviour and material properties
• Proven experience of developing new designs and using FEA simulation (e.g. ANSYS)
• Proficiency in Eurocodes and relevant standards
• Structural integrity and fatigue assessment
• Experience of non-linear FEA
• Good understanding of fabricated aluminium and steel structure production processes
• Understanding of technical documentation (e.g. Drawings & Specifications)
• Able to use 3D modelling software (e.g. Solid Edge, Spaceclaim)
• Design validation by simulation & testing including knowledge of strain gauging
• Excellent IT skills (e.g. MS packages and structural analysis tools)
