Important vetting: Due to the nature of the role and information, Level 2 Vetting NPPV2 checks will be required. These will be carried out once in post and required to complete probation successfully.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in targeting a rapidly developing area of crime. You may have occasional site visits to support officers and days of action with full team attendance.

Job Description

As a Waste Crime Triage Officer, you will work in our Area Enforcement Team dealing with waste crime across the Hertfordshire and North London Area. This role involves coordinating our frontline response to reports of waste crime triage.


Responsibilities

* Desk‑based research
* Triage risk assessments for waste related activity
* Tasking of Field Officers and associated follow‑up work
* Liaising with internal staff, members of the public and professional partners such as Local Authorities
* Innovate and proactively look for opportunities to do things more efficiently
* Grade and input intelligence reports onto our enforcement database, give administrative support to officers and track/create data on reports sent to the team
* Manage our evidence store, ensuring the correct evidence logging processes for all teams across HNL
* Administration and record retention


The Team

You’ll be part of a dedicated Enforcement Team specialising in serious and significant environmental crime. The team provides governance and ensures action is taken consistently and in accordance with EA procedures and crime priorities.

We sit within “Regulated Industry”, working closely with waste/water teams carrying out enforcement and regulation. We support our national colleagues on operations and support other area enforcement teams.


Essential Skills and Experience

* Proven administrative skills in a busy environment
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Good communication skills focusing on internal and external customers
* Ability to manage yourself and prioritise your own work effectively
* Strong experience of data and information management; competent in using various IT applications including MS Teams, Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.

Contact and Additional Information

EA Office base location will be Alchemy, Welwyn Garden City, with a hybrid working arrangement as the business needs (average 2‑3 days a week in the office). Some travel and overnights may be required for training.

Competence 1 – Data and Information Management

Description: Collects, analyses, interprets, records, manages, develops and shares data, material or information appropriately for a variety of purposes.

Question: As a Triage Officer, you will be tasked with accurately assessing incident reports sent to us from a number of different sources including the public, local authorities, police and volunteer organisations. Please give an example of where you have been required to examine and test out the sources and validity of data/information. What steps did you take to substantiate the information and how did you identify what was relevant?


Competence 2 – Communicates Effectively

Description: Listens and questions to understand and engage. Conveys information and ideas clearly, accurately and persuasively through speech and writing.

Question: Please give an example of when you have prepared a written report and data. How did you ensure to anticipate the main issues and prepare the responses either when presenting or in the report itself?


Competence 3 – Uses Initiative

Description: Takes action before and/or beyond what is required, owning the outcome.

Question: Please give an example of a data process or administrative project you have created and implemented to ensure that a task is performed effectively and efficiently. What proactive steps did you take to identify/solve a problem and how did you communicate this with others?
