Purpose:
We are seeking a technically able and commercially aware Solicitor/FCILEx to work within Lyons Davidson’s Contract Resolution Group, which forms part of Lyons Davidson’s Civil Litigation Division. The caseload would be made up of technically complex Claimant and Defendant contractual claims, including but not limited to: commercial Contracts, consumer contracts, misrepresentation, professional negligence, and building disputes. The work sources include LEI and private instruction. The work is varied and challenging but rewarding and the team places a high value on mutual support and co-operation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Reporting to the partner in charge of the Contract Resolution Group the primary focus of the role is twofold:
1. Management of a personal caseload of between 25 and 40 varied, complex and often high value cases, including responsibility for day-to-day client relationships; and
2. Proactive management and supervision of a small number of junior casehandlers.
Skills/Competencies and Experience required:
Essential:
1. Exceptional technical knowledge based on demonstrable practical experience of the application of legal principles to a wide variety of contract-based consumer and commercial claims;
2. Ability to take full responsibility for cases and strategy (subject to supervisory and group support where required);
3. Experience of supervision of junior casehandlers, encompassing both strategic advice, complaint resolution and development planning;
4. Ability to deal flexibly with a wide range of business partners and clients;
5. Experience of dealing with costs matters both pre-costs proceedings and through detailed assessment;
6. Intellectual curiosity, commerciality and pragmatism;
7. Collaborative approach to supervision and development of team.
Desirable:
1. Experience of dealing with insurance funded clients;
2. Experience in business development.
Education required:
Candidates will need to be a fully qualified solicitor, Barrister or CILEX or have equivalent experience.
