Job overview

Applications are invited for a post-CCT Fellow in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery to commence at the beginning of August 2026. This fellowship post has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) as part of the RCS Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Shoulder and Elbow unit at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This is a clinical and research fellowship that will provide intensive experience in the full range of shoulder and elbow surgery, co-supervised by three consultants, Mr Adam Rumian, Mr Harpal Singh Uppal and Mr Angelos Assiotis. In addition, there is a full time Specialist upper limb surgeon, Mr Clarence Yeoh, that the fellow will have the opportunity to work with.

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage to commence at the beginning of August 2026. The post is full time with a fixed 1:12 non-resident on call commitment on the Consultant rota, combined with 1:12 weekend trauma lists. The post is designed to provide a platform for a post-CCT surgeon to achieve a Consultant post. The post is paid at the Trust salary scale for Senior Clinical Fellows and attracts a pay supplement to reflect the hours worked.

Main duties of the job

The Fellow will be exposed to and expected to participate in all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery including major arthroscopic procedures, arthroplasty, tendon transfers, complex trauma and revision surgery. There are regular weekly elective and upper limb trauma lists with the supervising consultants. There is scope for parallel and independent operating lists and clinics depending on the progress of the fellow over the year.

The Fellow will be actively involved in research and audit and will be responsible for running the MDT meeting. They will be expected to participate in the department’s research program and would be supported in initiating original research. The fellow should aim to publish two peer reviewed publications over the year. The fellow will be supported in these activities.
