We are excited to offer an opportunity for a dedicated Grounds Person to join our school operations team. This role is essential in maintaining and developing high-quality sports facilities and outdoor areas, ensuring they meet the standards required for academic and extracurricular activities. Day-to-day of the role:
Sports Facilities and Playing Surfaces:
* Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and marking of natural turf pitches for various sports.
* Maintain artificial and hard surface areas, including athletics spaces and courts.
* Perform regular maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, aeration, and irrigation.
* Set up sports equipment and complete line marking for lessons and events.
* Conduct repair and renovation works on damaged or worn turf as needed.
Grounds and Outdoor Areas:
* Maintain lawns, landscaped areas, and plantings to ensure they are safe, tidy, and presentable.
* Manage seasonal tasks like leaf clearance and winter maintenance.
* Prepare outdoor areas for events and sports days.
Equipment and Machinery:
* Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery and tools.
* Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of equipment.
* Ensure proper storage and security of all tools and machinery.
Health, Safety, and Site Support:
* Adhere to health and safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment as required.
* Report any hazards, damages, or equipment faults promptly.
* Support general site security and follow safeguarding procedures.
Teamworking:
* Collaborate with colleagues across the operations team.
* Provide support during busy periods and major events.
* Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed to meet operational demands.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Interest and experience in grounds maintenance or sports turf management.
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Practical, reliable, and detail-oriented.
* Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Basic understanding of health and safety principles.
* Physically fit due to the demanding nature of the role.
Desirable:
* Relevant qualifications in horticulture, sports turf, or related fields.
* Experience with grounds maintenance machinery.
* Pesticide application certification.
* Full UK driving licence.
