At Downend Health Group, we are looking for a part-time Phlebotomist (22 working hours per week) to perform health care for patients. The successful applicant will perform venepuncture to patients registered at Christchurch Surgery and Willow Surgery.
Responsibilities
* Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
* Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures
* Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
* Accurate labelling of samples
* Checking patient identification against electronic records and blood sampling request form before any sample taken
* Recording collection of blood sample in patient electronic records in accordance with practice procedure
* Correct disposal of Sharps
* Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the correct laboratories in a timely fashion
* Ensuring that any queries are discussed with Practice Nurse/Scheduled Care Lead or GP
* Notifying GP/Practice Nurse of any significant patient issues
* Performing any other tasks within the skills of the post holder as agreed with the Nursing Team Supervisor
* Ensuring up to date with any mandatory training required of the post
Qualifications
* Specific training for phlebotomy
* Experience of Phlebotomy
* Experience of using EMIS Web
* Experience of Primary Care
* Willing to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role as full training will be given
* Able to communicate with patients and colleagues
* Good personal organisation
* Have manual dexterity to perform phlebotomy
* An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
* Commitment to ensuring equity of access to health care for all
* Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense
* Be organised and reliable
* Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team
* Pleasant and articulate
* Able to work under pressure in a changing environment

* Travel between 2 sites at Christchurch Surgery and Willow Surgery
