Location: Newham, East London An opportunity is available for an experienced Mains Laying Team Leader to join a utilities contractor delivering essential water network upgrades across the area. This is a practical, site-based leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, taking ownership of daily operations, and guiding a team to deliver safe and efficient results. Youll be responsible for organising on-site activities, ensuring crews are working effectively, and maintaining high standards across safety, quality, and productivity. Key Duties Supervising daily site operations for water mains installation and replacement works Allocating tasks and managing workforce, equipment, and materials on site Leading daily briefings, including safety updates and method discussions Ensuring all excavation, pipe laying, and reinstatement activities meet required specifications Promoting safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards Supporting and developing team members to maintain consistent performance and workmanship Carrying out checks on tools, plant, and equipment to ensure safe usage Coordinating with project teams, including engineers and planners, to support delivery Completing all necessary site records, including work logs and compliance documentation Addressing on-site challenges and keeping works progressing in line with schedules Candidate Profile You will have a background in utilities, with proven experience supervising teams involved in water mains or pipeline installation. A strong understanding of safe excavation and underground services is essential. You should be confident managing site activity, maintaining standards, and leading by example in a fast-paced environment.
