Job Title: Rent Accounting and Finance Officer

Pay rate: £20.74 per hour PAYE
Role length: Anticipated 3 months
The role:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to join the team as a Rent Accounting and Finance Officer. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the efficient and accurate administration of rent accounting processes and financial procedures, including raising invoices and production and dispatching of energy bills in line with policies and procedures, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and excellent service delivery.
Key responsibilities
* Administer rent accounting processes, including raising invoices and issuing energy bills
* Provide efficient and professional housing and financial administration support to the housing service
* Process and monitor any increases or decreases to the rent debit, ensuring all financial information is fully checked and accurate, including annual rent decreases, increases in service charges, and water rate charges
* Maintain and update the Housing Management System (tenancies, debits, charges, etc.)
* Process rent adjustments, refunds, and reconciliations in line with council policies
* Manage Direct Debits, standing orders, and payment card systems
* Liaise with Housing Benefits, DWP, and other agencies to support tenants, including those receiving Universal Credit
* Provide accurate financial data, support year-end processes, and ensure data integrity across systems
* Respond to resident queries and complaints with a high standard of customer care
* Support the promotion of digital services and self-service options for tenants
What the client is looking for
* Good standard of numeracy and literacy
* Knowledge of at least one of the following: rent accounting processes, direct debit mandate system, housing benefit understanding and social housing rent policy
* Demonstrable knowledge of using Microsoft Office packages
* Relevant experience of working in a finance environment
* Experience of undertaking a variety of mathematical and statistical calculations
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a wide range of people
* Demonstrate the ability to be solution-focused, taking responsibility and action to promote great customer service
* Ability to facilitate online customer engagement activities
* Problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to deal with potentially complex situations and achieve positive outcomes
* Flexible approach with the ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances
