The Service:
in Milton Keynes, Thomas Edward Mitton (TEM) House is a specialist residential centre that provides continuing rehabilitation, specialist care and support for people with acquired brain injury (ABI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Main duties of the job
The Role:
Brainkind is looking for a Senior Specialist SaLT who wants to develop their experience by working in our highly regarded service at TEM House; providing strategic, professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Work as autonomous speech and language therapist within your multidisciplinary team
* Assess how a persons communication impacts on their day to day life and provide intervention as appropriate.
* Work with the person and their social network to problem solve and overcome barriers.
* Assess communication and provide a management plan and rehabilitation (as appropriate) seeking specialist assessments as required
* Provide training to staff and our service users social network
* Be integral to service and organisational development.

Job responsibilities
Clinical / Professional Practice
To apply the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, demonstratingknowledge of current research findings, and best practice in the field.
To manage and prioritise a caseload of People We Support with complexmental/physical health needs and/or challenging behaviour.
To use evidence-based practice, service user centred principles and clinicalreasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate intervention.
To undertake comprehensive assessments, considering environment, contextand future plans, of People We Support in order to formulate appropriateo rehabilitation goalso care planso communication and dysphagia therapy programmeso referrals
To overcome barriers in communication in order to actively engage People WeSupport in assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning to gain validinformed consent. Where necessary, work within a legal framework with PeopleWe Support who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
To seek consent from People We Support or advocate to include and shareinformation with family, carers and other stakeholders, respecting everyonesright to confidentiality.
To provide information about service users communication abilities andsupport needs.
To complete swallowing assessments, providing recommendations, care plans,onward referrals and training for all staff in the safe management andrehabilitation of dysphagia.
To effectively manage time and caseload, prioritising workload within apotentially pressurised and restrictive environment.
To write and verbally present reports, care and rehab plans which reflectPeople We Support needs, impact on functioning and summarising findings,providing recommendations and referral when appropriate.
To maintain and produce accurate, professional up-to-date documentation,ensuring effective reporting is complete and consistent with legal andorganisational standards.
To be aware of and comply with responsibilities regarding risk managementand safeguarding and look for ways to improve, taking action as required,helping others to do same.
To complete risk assessments and find ways to improve health and safetywithin work area if required.
To exercise duty of care in all aspects of role.
To maintain the equipment and inventory within the area of work, informing theservice manager of any replacement needs.
To maintain registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council,complying with their requirements in compiling portfolio.Leadership

Person Specification
Qualifications
* About you:
* What are we looking for?
* The successful applicant will have a Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* Registered with the HCPC
* Achieved Dysphagia Competencies
* Specialist knowledge of SaLT models and interventions in ABI e.g. social communication, cognitive communication, communication partner training.
* Able to manage complex dysphagia within an adult neurology caseload
* Minimum 4 years qualified experience encompassing complex case management
