We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Teacher to deliver practical and theory‑based construction education within HMP Five Wells. The role focuses on helping learners develop vocational skills, employability behaviours and recognised qualifications that support progression into further training or sustainable employment on release. Teaching takes place in a secure environment and plays a vital role in supporting rehabilitation and reducing re‑offending. Previous teaching experience is not essential. We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Five Wells, working as a Construction Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week. Who are Novus? Built in 2022, and costing £253m, this state of the art prison accommodates a male prison population. Role Responsibilities Deliver engaging and structured teaching in construction‑related subjects (e.g. multi‑skills construction, carpentry, brickwork or general construction skills), aligned to recognised qualifications Plan and deliver inclusive lessons that meet the needs of learners with varying abilities and prior experience Assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records Promote high standards of behaviour, health and safety, and workshop practice at all times Support learners to develop employability skills, confidence and positive learning behaviours Work collaboratively with the wider education, prison and support teams to contribute to learner progression Ensure all teaching and assessment meets awarding body and quality standards Skills, Qualifications and Experience To be successful in this role, you will need to: Relevant vocational qualification in Construction (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) Teaching qualification (e.g. Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training) or willingness to work towards Recent industry experience within the construction sector Ability to motivate and engage adult learners with diverse needs Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusion Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills Can motivate and enthuse learners Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets Demonstrate positive team working Benefits 40 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays 2 hours for wellbeing / personal development per week Significant Pension contributions Retail Discounts Employee Assistance Program Cycle to work scheme Safeguarding The LTE Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
