We are looking for a practice nurse to join our friendly,supportive and committed Practice Team. The successful individual will beresponsible for the delivery of practice nursing services, working as part ofthe practice multidisciplinary team and delivering care within their scope ofpractice to the our patient population. The practice nurse will beresponsible for a number of clinical areas within the treatment room,health promotion and prevention.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, including Dopplers and removal of sutures
* Undertake Cervical Cytology
* Offer lifestyle advice as appropriate.
* Undertake ECGs
* Undertake Venepuncture
* Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions
* Carry out Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations/travel vacinnations
* Provide Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
* Assisting GPs with minor surgery and other clinical procedures
* Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
* Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

With over 18,000registered patients Combe Coastal Practice is the largest GP Practice in NorthDevon. Our main surgery is in Ilfracombe with branch surgeries at Combe Martinand Woolacombe.
Combe CoastalPractice is a busy teaching Practice with 12 GP partners and 6 salaried GPs. Wehave strong management, nursing teams and admin teams.
Job responsibilities
Job Summary:
Responsible for providing nursing services to the patients of thepractice including treatment, screening and advice and vaccinations in order tomeet the health care needs of the practice population.
Workingin accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, the post holder will provideassessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice topatients.
The postholder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the highest standardsof safe and effective nursing care to the whole practice population.
Clinically,the focus of the role is the delivery of evidence-based practice forpatients as required by the Gps, including venepuncture, wound assessmentand dressings, ear syringing, ECGs, cervical screening and Vaccinations.
Theywill manage the provision of child immunisations to agreed protocols.
Theywill work collaboratively with the whole practice team to meet the needsof patients, with reference to practice agreed protocols and guidelines,providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and inparticipation with nurse colleagues and GPs.
Toprovide general and specific health screening, including cervical cytologyand new patient checks, to agreed protocols with referral to Gp ifnecessary.
Toadvise patients on travel healthcare, to plan and give holidayimmunisations schedules and provide other prophylactic injectionprogrammes as required.
To undertake health education using all available resources and to organisehealth education where needed
Toensure adequate Treatment Room supplies are held, and that all equipmentin this area is clean and well maintained.
Toorganise and maintain appropriate registers and accurate records.
Tomaintain professional development by attending courses and study days asagreed with GPs/Management team
To carryout community work as required by the GPs.
Toparticipate in clinical audit activities.
Toparticipate in the education and training of other Practice Nurses orother disciplines within the Practice.

General Duties
Maintainthe highest standards of infection control at all times, maintaining ownwork areas in a tidy, clean, safe and free from hazards. Initiation ofremedial/corrective action where needed or escalation to the managementteam.
Provide comprehensive travel health advice for patients prior to travel includingmalaria prophylaxis, safe sex, sun protection, food hygiene, first aid andemergency medication, health insurance and vaccinations
Administerchild and adult immunisations and vaccinations in accordance with nationaland local programmes. Be competent in anaphylaxis and resuscitationtechniques. Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposalsof vaccines anddrugs and that adequate stock levels are maintained including the orderingof vaccinations.
Undertakeprocedures including: venepuncture, BP management, urinalysis, pregnancytesting, ECGs, cervical cytology, wound management, Dopplers, removal ofsutures, ear care and syringing.
Providesupport and chaperoning to the doctors for minor surgery and otherprocedures such as coil fittings
Promotehealth and wellbeing, giving general education advice on diet,contraception, smoking, chronic disease management, exercise etc.
Traveladvice and vaccinations.
Initiateand carry out programmes of health screening as agreed with the practiceclinical team
Advise,support and encourage individuals, families and groups to address issueswhich affect their health and social wellbeing
Demonstrateawareness of safeguarding issues and promoting the protection ofvulnerable adults and children
Carryout spillage control and decontamination procedures
Contributeto the practice achieving its PMS contract and QOF obligations
Safemanagement of sharps procedures including use, storage and disposal
Ensureall data protection requirements are met when gathering, recording andstoring patient data
Liaiseand maintain good working relationships with all members of the practiceteam. Work within the multi-disciplinary team within the practice andacross the wider health system
