The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Project and Property team. The Projects and Property Service is central to delivering a wide range of transformational projects for the council, supporting sustainable and inclusive growth, and maximizing the placemaking impact of our projects.
North Somerset Council has declared a Climate Emergency with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. This strategy is supported by wider strategic plans, including the Economic Plan and the Joint Local Transport Plan. This presents a significant opportunity to be involved in cross-council initiatives and contribute to meeting our climate targets.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with contractors, colleagues across the organization, and partners in North Somerset and the West of England to ensure major projects are well managed and deliver expected outcomes.
Within our Projects and Property Team, the Senior Project Manager will support the delivery of complex, high-profile projects used by residents and visitors for generations. These include major infrastructure projects, new schools, regeneration, maintenance, and council estate transformation initiatives. The role involves ensuring these projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the North Somerset Corporate Plan.
The Senior Project Manager will manage a multidisciplinary team, develop service business plans, and oversee resource planning. They will have the autonomy to modify programming, delivery, and resourcing, and will undertake research to recommend changes to project objectives for service improvement. The role requires leading and applying professional project management skills across major capital schemes and property functions such as Housing, Highways, Rail, and Building projects. The postholder will develop work programmes, implement new ways of working, monitor service standards, and respond proactively to project challenges. A fully qualified professional with substantial post-qualification experience, including supervising others, is essential for this role.
