NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking a dynamic and motivated Decontamination Manager to lead our Endoscopy Decontamination Unit at University Hospital Ayr. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality endoscopic care through the effective management of decontamination processes, equipment, and personnel.
Hours and Shift Pattern:
This is a full time post (37 hours) over 5 days Monday to Friday.
This post is offered on a permanent basis.
What you will do:
The Decontamination Manager is responsible for the effective, safe, and compliant operation of the endoscopy decontamination unit. The postholder will lead and manage the decontamination team to ensure that all flexible endoscopes and associated equipment are reprocessed in accordance with national standards (including SHTM 01-06, JAG accreditation requirements, and local infection prevention policies), supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
The role is key to maintaining a safe clinical environment, ensuring full traceability, and minimising delays to the endoscopy service through efficient scope turnaround and equipment availability. The Decontamination Manager will be responsible for quality assurance, staff training and competency, audit compliance, and service improvement, working in close collaboration with clinical, estates, and infection control teams.
This role supports the wider strategic objectives of the Endoscopy Service and NHS Ayrshire & Arran by ensuring the decontamination service is robust, responsive, and aligned with the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and patient care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Knowledge, Training, Experience needed for job
Essential:
* Significant experience working in a decontamination environment, preferably within an endoscopy setting.
* Demonstrable understanding of national decontamination standards, including SHTM 01-06, JAG accreditation requirements, and infection prevention and control (IPC) principles.
* Recognised qualification or accredited training in decontamination sciences or endoscope reprocessing (e.g. IDSc Technical Certificate, NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination, or equivalent).
* Experience in a supervisory or team leadership role, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop staff.
* Proven ability to maintain and monitor quality assurance systems, traceability processes, and compliance with audit requirements.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate workload, prioritise tasks, and resolve operational issues effectively.
* IT literacy, with experience using decontamination tracking systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable:
* Completion or willingness to undertake further training in:
o Leadership and management
o Audit and quality improvement methodologies
o Health & Safety regulations relevant to decontamination units
* Experience working in a JAG-accredited environment.
* Familiarity with automated endoscope reprocessors (AERs), drying cabinets, and related decontamination equipment.
* Evidence of CPD and commitment to ongoing professional development.
