Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Practice Education Facilitator has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward thinking nurse/midwife with experience of working in Intensive Care, NICU, NBT. The role supports the Practice Development/NICU Education Lead to ensure a strong culture of learning to support patient care and safety for learners undertaking their neonatal Qualification in Specialism requiring hands-on clinical Intensive care support and competency assessment.
The post is open to candidates with suitable experience and a commitment to supporting staff and improving care. The role requires good leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of change management, team dynamics and the ability to deliver an efficient and effective service meeting the needs of neonates and their families. A passion for supporting and developing others is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to undertake PNA training if not already held.
You will be working a variety of shifts to support NBT and Network Learners in Intensive Care within NICU at NBT. This role can be undertaken in addition to a substantive NICU clinical contract, which will not exceed a combined total of 37.5 hours per week but no less than 30 hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
* Support Learners from NBT/SWODN during clinical practice to achieve skills mandated within their Capability Documents.
* Provide Restorative Clinical Supervision as required.
* Work closely with the PD lead and perinatal MDT to promote, support and deliver education and a positive learning culture across all aspects of the perinatal team.
* Plan, construct and deliver educational activities for the Perinatal MDT/SWODN in various settings (1:1, small/large groups, online, etc.).
* Support the lead to develop educational resources and measure achievements/outcomes by undertaking regular auditing/evaluation of educational activities, nursing care quality indicators, and parents’ experience.
* Contribute to development/education/training across forums such as handovers, safety huddles and staff meetings.
* Engage with the MDT on neonatal awareness campaigns (e.g., Maternity and perinatal incentives, Core Competency Framework, BAPM standards, BLISS charter).
* Develop clear guidelines, competencies, policies and SOPs alongside the lead and MDT.
* Promote practice development and a learning environment; act as a role model and provide leadership to empower learners across curricula.
* Build and maintain relationships with Network and local community groups to facilitate closer working with partner trusts and across SWODN.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
You will work on a day-to-day basis with the established NICU education team and the wider Perinatal education team, responsible for training, education and support across the Women and Children’s Division at NBT. You may deputise for the Practice Development Lead in their absence.
Knowledge of education and learning in healthcare, plus experience implementing/supporting change in multi-professional teams, will be advantageous, as will a comprehensive Neonatal ITU competence and commitment to the PNA role. A good understanding of local/national standards driving care should inform Neonatal and Maternity training/education within healthcare and its integration into clinical practice. You will deliver education in varied situations/settings and should be confident teaching in multiple formats. You will work with infant feeding leads and lactation consultants to support UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation and promote breastfeeding initiatives across the perinatal service. It is essential to stay up to date with current literature, national guidance/publications related to NICU and Generic Nursing practice.
The post will require current RCUK NLS (or equivalent) certification; advantageous to have undertaken or be nominated for Generic Instructor Training. Successful candidates will undertake further education/training related to education/learning theory as available.
