Overview

Catch22 exists to help build a society where everyone has a good place to live, good people around them, and a fulfilling purpose. We call these our '3Ps'. We achieve this in two ways. Firstly, we improve lives on the frontline through delivery of public services. Secondly, we use our knowledge to change 'the system', to fix the complex web that can trap and disempower those it was set up to help. With the heart of a charity and the mindset of a business, we are uniquely placed to deliver on this challenging agenda.

Young People and Families Our Young People and Families (YPF) hub provides early intervention, targeted and specialist support services to those in crisis, leaving care, missing from home or with substance misuse or mental health problems. Our services support people no matter what their situation – and have demonstrated a high success rate. This is a partnership role with Mindworks Surrey.

Role

The role of Smoke Free Generation Lead Practitioner – Smoke Free Generation is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people (CYP). The role will be part of our existing Surrey CYP’s Substance Use Service (SYPSUS). You will be joining a supportive and dedicated team, who are driven to build and develop the self-esteem, confidence, and resilience of young people – reducing potential harm, and enabling young people to lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.

The overall aim of the Smoke Free Generation Lead role is to design and lead delivery of a ‘smoke free generation’ prevention, cessation and education service for CYP to reduce the smoking prevalence for young people aged 11-24 in Surrey and to stop and reduce the rate that young people take up smoking and vaping.

Service components

* Component A - Smoking and Vaping Education Prevention Service
* Component B - Smoking and Vaping Cessation Service - delivery of a gold standard, evidence-based approach, to reduce smoking and vaping among children and young people aged 11-24, using NICE Guidance.
* Component C - Education and Delivery Service - support CYP to stop vaping or smoking. Develop an education and delivery service to support young people who may be considering vaping or smoking, including creating a network of Smoke Free Generation Ambassadors who can signpost and support young people to the appropriate information and services.

The service model is based on a tiered framework:

* A specialist stop smoking service
* Brief advice / intervention
* Self-help and signposting

You will work alongside the Surrey Young Person Substance Use Practitioners, who will also have undertaken the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) and can support you in delivering interventions to CYP.

Qualifications

* A relevant qualification such as youth work, counselling, health and social care, and/or relevant experience of therapeutic delivery, and alternative suitable qualifications.
* Good communication, organisational, and ICT skills.

What does good look like for this role

* You will demonstrate knowledge and competency in delivering young smoking cessation interventions, to a wide range of individuals, according to their needs.
* You will have knowledge/understanding and/or direct experience of supporting CYP and YP experiencing difficulties with emotional wellbeing and mental health.
* You will evidence that you are able to work to a high standard of record keeping in a timely manner, in accordance with Catch22 delivery outcomes, targets and recording procedures.
* You will be able to deliver and evidence high quality engagement and support to the young people and families we work with.
* You will communicate and work collaboratively, constructively and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies, ensuring effective partnership working, representing Catch22 professionally at all times, and contributing positively to the team and Catch22.

* Hours of Work: 21 hours per week
