The role
As a Principal Power Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an opportunity to take a lead role supporting a private electrical power distribution network consisting of high integrity supplies for critical facilities and naval vessels.
Day to day, you’ll undertake technical activities that support the ongoing availability and reliability of the network ensuring that the design intent is defined, configured and maintained, as part of the Design and Technical Authority.
Responsibilities for the Principal Power Systems Engineer includes:
1. Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications.
2. Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation.
3. Undertaking asset condition surveys and supporting fault diagnosis and rectification.
4. Reviewing and approving technical deliverables produced by other Engineers.
5. Leading technical activities and support the development of others.
6. Deputising for leadership of the team where required.
This role is full time, 36 hours and will be based at on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Principal Power Systems Engineer:
7. Subject matter expert knowledge of electrical power systems
8. A comprehensive understanding of engineering principles for developing and maintaining electrical power systems
9. Significant experience of fault finding on electrical systems
10. Detailed knowledge of the general legislation, regulations and standards applicable to electrical power systems
11. Experience of leading, mentoring and coaching others
12. Proficient in producing technical drawings and documentation
13. Working knowledge of relevant engineering software applications/tools
14. Ability to deliver packages of work on time and effective communication with key stakeholders
Qualifications for the Principal Power Systems Engineer:
15. A minimum of an engineering degree in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline
16. Professional registration is desirable
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
