Associate Practitioner
Blood sciences department has a vacancy for an Associate Practitioner in the blood transfusion department. The post is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is a busy department providing a 24/7 critical service.
We are seeking a competent and versatile individual with excellent team working and communication skills who can work accurately at all times.
Previous experience in a blood sciences environment is not essential, as training will be provided, but a medical laboratory background is essential.

The post is full-time, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with the expectation to contribute to our shift rota, including late shifts and weekends if needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Participate in the provision of a comprehensive range of scientific and diagnostic services in blood transfusion.
2. Liaise with transfusion senior staff and lab managers as part of a team delivering high-quality, protocol-based technical services under supervision.
3. Communicate with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, other healthcare professionals, patients, their representatives, and commercial suppliers.
4. Operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform scientific techniques under supervision.
5. Handle body fluids, including high-risk specimens, appropriately.
6. Report results in accordance with departmental SOPs and as appropriate to grade.
7. Act as supervisor for support grade staff members as per job description and management instructions.
8. Train, support, and advise less experienced staff, such as trainees, students, and MLA’s.
