Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Assistant to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Garth, a Category B male prison in Leyland. The prison houses around 1500 men with a variety of health needs and in this role you will play an integral part in providing exceptional care for our patients.
This is a rare opportunity to join a close‑knit Pharmacy team in a unique working environment where no two days are the same. We are looking for an experienced dispenser holding an NVQ Level 2. The role offers lots of opportunities for training and further development.
Main duties of the job
As our new Pharmacy Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
* Acting as medication second checker (including controlled drugs)
* Assist with medication and stock management
* Ordering and receiving medication
* Supporting the Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Manager and the wider healthcare team
* Label and dispense medications, and prepare prescriptions
* Contribute to services such as medicine reconciliation, managing stock medicines and transportation of medicines
* Provide support to ensure a safe and secure medicines management service, following policies, procedures and standard operating procedures

Qualifications
Our new Pharmacy Dispenser will have:
* An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Dispensing
* Knowledge of medications
* Experience within a pharmacy environment – whether in the community, hospital or a prison/secure setting
* Experience within a patient/customer facing role
* A non‑judgemental and compassionate approach
Job description
Hours: This is a full‑time role, working 37.5 hours per week, 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday.
Salary: This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary of £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.
