Overview
We’re working with a major aerospace and defence programme to find an Airworthiness Group Leader to take ownership of both Initial and Continued Airworthiness activities across complex aircraft platforms. This is a senior technical leadership role, combining regulatory expertise, safety assurance, and stakeholder engagement to ensure aircraft operate safely, compliantly, and with full certification confidence.
As an Airworthiness Group Leader, you’ll sit at the heart of certification, safety, and operational assurance—leading flight certification programmes, interfacing with regulators, and driving airworthiness decisions across the full aircraft lifecycle. Your expertise will directly influence flight safety, regulatory compliance, and mission success.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead aircraft flight certification activities, establishing the Certification Basis and orchestrating certification programmes to achieve Type Certification, including generation of MPTF and RTS.
• Provide expert regulatory and legal guidance, interfacing with UK aviation authorities including the CAA, MAA, and DE&S.
• Undertake Independent Assurance activities, reviewing qualification evidence to confirm aircraft airworthiness and safety compliance.
• Analyse flight safety and occurrence data to identify trends, working with design organisations to define and implement remedial actions.
• Lead and coordinate fault and defect investigations to determine root cause and ensure corrective action.
• Generate and manage Technical Instructions to support the continued safe operation of aircraft across multiple operators.
• Support aircraft incident and accident investigations, working with investigation authorities and service inquiries as required.
Required Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience on civil and/or military aircraft programmes with strong aircraft and systems integration knowledge.
• In-depth knowledge of UK military and/or civil airworthiness requirements (e.g. DS05-123, DS00-970, CS-VLA, CS-23).
• Proven experience in aircraft qualification and certification, including compilation of aircraft-level flight limitations.
• Strong understanding of aviation safety standards and processes (e.g. MIL-STD-882, DS0-56, 1309).
• Ability to engage confidently with regulators, technical authorities, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong documentation, investigation, and technical reporting capabilities.
Desirable Skills
• Knowledge of emerging UAV regulatory and certification environments.
• Experience with safety analysis techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, Hazard Logs, and Zonal Hazard Analysis.
• Understanding of UK defence procurement and/or civil aviation regulatory agencies.
