Job summary
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Band 7 Manager to provide leadership to our Children’s Emergency Department and Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. This is a key leadership role for someone with significant paediatric urgent or emergency care experience who is passionate about patient safety, staff wellbeing and service improvement. You will play a vital role in delivering safe, effective and high‑quality care for children and young people, while supporting and developing the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Lead the day‑today operational management of CED and Paediatric SDEC
* Ensure safe staffing, skill mix, patient flow and escalation processes
* Provide visible and supportive leadership in a fast‑paced emergency environment
* Maintain oversight of clinical governance, safeguarding and patient safety
* Line‑manage ward sisters/charge nurses and associated staff groups
* Lead investigations into incidents and complaints, embedding learning into practice
* Use data, audit and feedback to drive quality improvement
* Work collaboratively with medical teams, site management and wider paediatric services

Qualifications – Essential
* Registered Children’s Nurse
* Leadership or management qualification (or willingness to work towards)
* Practice assessor/mentor qualification
Experience – Essential
* Significant post‑registration experience in paediatric emergency or urgent care
Experience – Desirable
* Experience working within Paediatric SDEC services
