Job Description

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Governance Officer for an initial 6 - 9 month contract on a rate of £200-£250/day (Inside IR35). This role will be hybrid working with 2-3 days required on site each week.


Responsibilities:


- Providing specialist knowledge and advice to colleagues on corporate governance matters.

- Preparing briefings, research and consultation responses in line with relevant corporate governance matters.

- Supporting a broad range of corporate improvement projects.

- Fostering positive, productive and professional working relationships internally and externally.

- Representing the Governance team internally and externally by contributing to and supporting forums and working groups.

- Setting up and maintaining systems/databases to ensure that corporate information is kept up-to-date, accurate, meets deadlines and is accessible to all of the relevant people.

- Providing advice and support on data protection matters and reporting procedures to colleagues across the organisation.

- Managing an annual programme of Board and Committee meetings, with associated administration.

- Preparing briefings, research and consultation responses in line with relevant corporate governance matters.

- Designing, implementing, analysing and reporting on internal surveys.

- Maintaining registers on policies, training, memorandums of understanding and legal work.

- Monitoring and reporting on the progress on internal audit recommendations.

- Preparing quarterly and annual reports in support of the organisation’s submission relating to the Public Services Reform Act (PSRA).

- Collating and presenting data for inclusion in the organisation’s annual report.

- Assisting with the programming of internal audit reviews.

- Helping edit and prepare Board and Committee papers.

- Attending Board and Committee meetings and preparing minutes.

- Assisting with the monitoring, recording and responding to internal and external requests for information including Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations requests and Data Subject Access requests

- Collating management information for the Board, including liaison with internal teams, ensuring accurate and timely production of business performance reports.

- Providing advice and support to colleagues and managing agents in relation to the organisation’s Complaints Handling Procedure, recording complaints and preparing quarterly and annual reporting on complaints handling.

- Designing, implementing, analysing and reporting on internal surveys.

- You will deputise for the Head of Corporate Governance on occasions of leave and will oversee some elements of management responsibilities of the Governance Assistant, including the provision of reviewing outputs and provision of feedback.


Essential Skills:


- Strong knowledge of relevant corporate statutory responsibilities and legislation within the public sector including Complaints, Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Subject Access Requests, Records Management and Data Protection.

- Experience in the preparation and presentation of briefings/reports.

- Strong networking and relationship management skills with the ability to deal confidently and establish good relationships with stakeholders.

- Commitment to customer focus and stakeholder satisfaction.

- Robust priority and time management skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload.

- Data analysis skills and the ability to translate data and present complex management information.

- Proficient in the use of MS Office/O365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.

- Minute and note-taking.

- Be proactive in determining improved ways of delivering governance services.

- Managing information for senior management, Executive Teams and Board discussions.

- A track record of professional integrity is paramount
