The job itself
A lady in her late 20s with Cerebral Palsy and is a full-time wheelchair user is looking for personal Assistant. This lady lives in a rural location near to Howden. The hours are 20 per week, support will be required mainly for late afternoons and early evening.
Duties to include:
1. Helping with therapy such as physio and going to the gym/swimming.
2. Taking to appointments.
3. Helping with showering (female only).
4. Help with organising medication.
5. Occasionally meal preparation.
6. Taking out in general for example for social purposes, shopping, days out & trips etc.
7. Help with phone calls or paperwork if ever needed
The role requires someone who is supportive as this lady does suffer with anxiety, they need to be chatty and enjoy going out to visit new places as this lady does.
There is no lifting involved but may need an arm or hand to support when transferring from wheelchair to cars, other seats, public toilets but nothing that needs specialist training.
Needs to be at 25 or over with a driving license for insurance purposes as there will be use of a motability car when out with this lady.
Must be able to lift a lightweight manual wheelchair into the car.
The role is for 4 hours a day, but must be available for appointments. Flexibility is required as this lady requires support to attend appointments and therapy sessions therefore times and number of hours per day may change, notice will be given ahead of these.
A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
