Reporting to the Sourcing Manager, the role is responsible and accountable for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing complex technical goods, materials, and services, ensuring they meet specific engineering standards, quality requirements, and budget constraints. The Technical Buyer acts as a crucial link between Design and Development, engineering/production teams and external suppliers, optimizing the supply chain, reducing costs, and managing technical risk. Job Duties & Responsibilities Technical Compliance: Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, to ensure procured components meet quality standards. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with Design & Development, engineering, project management, and production teams to align purchasing with project plans and timelines Estimating: Experienced in producing accurate cost calculations, managing RFQs, and supporting project teams with reliable data-driven estimates. Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers, including negotiating contracts, prices, and delivery schedules. Cost Optimization: Analyse costs and implement cost-reduction initiatives (VAVE) without compromising quality. Procurement Process: Manage the full Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, issue purchase orders, and resolve issues with suppliers regarding quality or delays. Inventory & Risk Management: Monitor market trends to anticipate risks and manage inventory levels to support production requirements. Competencies & Requirements Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, fabrication) or technical materials relevant to the industry (e.g., steel fabrication & timber manufacturing). Education/Experience: Typically requires a degree in a relevant engineering and or product development discipline or equivalent technical purchasing experience Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint Etc. Communication: Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills for managing supplier relationships. Systems Proficiency: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Navision/ Business Central) for processing of purchase orders. Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills Technical and inquisitive mindset Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines Problem solver, solutions orientated, positive can-do attitude. Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable managing priorities in a fast-paced environment Team player with the ability to work self-sufficiently.
