Overview
Our Clinical Support Workers for the Community Liver Health Checks programme support the roll out of an exciting new pilot project providing community screening of people in hard-to-reach groups for cirrhosis. This project aims to identify people currently using local alcohol and drug services or other community services and engage them in screening for cirrhosis, offering interventions to help their liver health. This project will aim to provide patients with support to attend screening and provide direct to patient incentives to encourage attendance at screening.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with the Hepatology Service at MRI and the Infectious Diseases outreach service at community sites, with community outreach work coordinated by the Greater Manchester Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN).
* Base at Manchester Royal Infirmary and operate with the Operational Delivery Network for Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.
* Perform blood tests and fibroscans (a type of ultrasound for assessing liver health) with full training provided; deliver results; engage patients found to be cirrhotic in preventative health care and encourage them to attend for further hospital screening; provide health promotion advice.
* Work closely with partners in drug services, probation services, homeless services, and primary care, including programmes with existing peer support schemes within those organisations and the voluntary sector.
