Consultant Radiologist with Interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging
This is a new consultant post. The post holder will work closely with the existing radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL. The post holder will cover inpatient and ED MSK imaging as part of a 1 in 10 in-hours rota. There is the opportunity to join a 1 in 30 general ED/IP rota with on-call. The appointment will be full-time. If a candidate is unable to work full time for personal reasons, consideration will be given to modifying the job content in consultation with consultant colleagues. A major refurbishment programme of all Trust MRI and CT scanners has recently been completed, ensuring access to the latest technology. The service has strong links to academic and other radiology departments; there is opportunity to be involved in research. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical governance.

Main duties of the job
* To undertake programmed activities in MSK imaging. Opportunities for development of the existing service will be supported in line with local population needs and the trust development plans.
* Support the provision of imaging in rheumatology, pain and spinal imaging.
* Support emergency imaging across UHL.
* Supervise junior medical staff.
* Review MSK & trauma imaging performed as an emergency within and out of hours.
* Lead or participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Contribute to the training of Specialist Registrars on the East Midlands Deanery (South) radiology training scheme.
* Supervise and train skill-mix radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.
* Support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
* Participate in the diagnostic on-call rota within UHL and provide weekend radiological support for the Imaging service.
* Participate in the provision of sarcoma services in the region, including Sarcoma MDT participation and providing an US/US-guided biopsy service.
* Ability to perform CT-guided interventions (bone biopsy) is desirable.

Person specification
Essential Criteria
* Must demonstrate behaviours consistent with Trust values.
* MB BS or equivalent; Full GMC Registration; Fully accredited for higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview date; FRCR or equivalent.
Desirable Criteria
* Membership of relevant specialist societies or associations; Higher degree (MSc, MD, or equivalent).
* Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a specialty interest in MSK imaging.
Experience
* Fully trained in general radiology with specialist training in MSK imaging.
* Clinical knowledge and judgement; evidence-based practice; IT skills; willingness to develop MSK imaging skills.
Communication/Relationship
* Effective written and spoken English; ability to communicate with patients and colleagues; ability to work in teams and participate in MDT discussions; ability to communicate with referring services.
Planning & Organisation
* Willingness to work as part of a team; able to supervise juniors; knowledge of clinical governance; ability to manage time and information; willingness to understand service development issues.
Motivation
* Personal integrity and reliability; willingness to learn; ability to motivate and develop both medical and non-medical staff.
